The Ultimate Marriage
I admit that these past couple of weeks, I have took a tumble in my Christian walk. I have to get this out of my chest. I feel that I have been victim to the enemy’s lies about me never finding a loving spouse and that no one will ever love me.
Why is it always so easy to listen to those lies?
I grew up with watching Disney Princess movies like Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid and more. As a grew older, I began to ask that unmistakable question that every girl asks when they get to middle school: Is my Prince Charming real?
That question forever marked me. I remember the anxiety, the deep fear of not knowing. It’s my nature (and now that I think about it’s more or less every human being’s nature) to want to know the future. Obsession? Well, let’s see what the Scriptures say.
“The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of the law.”
Deuteronomy 29:29 (NIV)
As Christians, we do not live or act like the world. We are different, more specifically set apart.
For “In this world we are like Jesus.” (1 John 4:17, NIV)
Speaking of Jesus, He is more than our Savior. He is God, our King, our Brother, our Friend, our Counselor, but most importantly our Husband.
In the book of Revelation, when speaking to the Church of Ephesus, the Lord Jesus says to them that they are doing everything right: Persevering in the face of trials, expelling wicked people, testing if a person is true or false. BUT! There is one thing that they were slipping on.
“Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent.”
Revelation 2:4-5
When love is missing in any relationship, it’s not a relationship that will last. Any relationship that’s foundation is built on deceit, anger, abuse, etc. is NOT a healthy or God-oriented relationship.
Jesus made note of the Espesianians actions toward him, but the love was missing. We don’t know if it was out of fear or just in it for the eternal rewards, but the cornerstone of Christianity is LOVE.
Jesus died on that cross not because He had to, not because He felt like it, but because He loved us. He voluntarily gave up all His Godly power to become like us human beings. He gave up His influence, His status to become a poor carpenter. It only makes sense that we match that same love he has showed us and is still showing us to this day.
My single Brothers and Sisters in Christ, know that your First Love is and will always be Jesus.
